Adam Arkin, Professor of Bioengineering, is the Editor-in-Chief of the newly launched synthetic biology journal Synthetic Biology.
Coverage will include reports on biologically engineered solutions to problems, new technologies for synthesis of DNA, selection of function and directed evolution, engineered environments for optimizing cellular development, standards and tools for design, and description of biological parts and systems.
The journal is now accepting research articles, review articles, perspectives, and an innovative new article format "spec sheets" that are formal descriptions of synthetic biological parts and devices. The journal encourages articles on new technologies and practices that accelerate the engineering of biological systems and describe how these systems can be applied to problems spanning health, environment, agriculture, and energy. Authors are also encouraged to include discussions about the impact of synthetic biology on biology, biotechnology, society, and the economy.
