Many Bioengineering students and alumni have been awarded prestigious fellowships or honorable mentions through the National Science Foundation Graduate Research Fellowship Program and other prestigious external fellowships.

The National Science Foundation offers approximately 1,000 graduate fellowships annually in this competition. The Graduate Research Fellowship is intended for students in the early stages of graduate study, and provides three years of support for study in research-based master’s or doctoral programs. Thousands of students compete every year.

Another oustanding award program is the National Defense Science and Engineering Graduate Fellowship (NDSEG), received this year by continuing graduate student Rick Henrickson.
